Transition Program
-
Hopewell Academy provides direct and comprehensive transition training and support to students at all levels in our program. Each student is evaluated to determine where they fall in the spectrum of transition. Are they ready for independent paid employment or are they at an earlier stage where they need one-on-one job support? Have they decided upon a career interest and chosen colleges to attend or are they still at the initial stages of deciding what even interests them? Staff uses Choices 360 to do initial evaluations including a career interest inventory, ability profiler, and learning styles identifier. Students are then set on a course which will prepare them for life after high school. Hopewell Academy's 6th, 7th and 8th-grade students participate in transition activities in accordance with their age that are relevant and appropriate. The following is a list of the highlights of our Transition Program:
-
Career Interest Inventories
Staff administers various career assessments which can help a student identify potential career interests and skill levels.
-
Career Research
Once a career interest has been identified, students work closely with the vocational staff to research specific job requirements for that field.
-
College and Trade School Tours
Students attend various college and trade school tours to help educate them on enrollment opportunities.
-
Financial Education
Students participate in various activities including opening a checking or savings account, balancing a checkbook, identifying how much to spend versus how much to save, how to pay utilities and rent, etc.
-
Healthy Living and Hygiene
Staff encourages students to maintain a healthy lifestyle and practice good hygiene.
